(This video is recorded from a Facebook LIVE session)
I have had the hardest 2 weeks that I’ve had this whole year. I don’t about you, but 2017 is really ending right in line with all the intensity we’ve been feeling all year.
I just keep thinking to myself… please… nothing more. I can’t handle anything else. And I am still being tested.
The truth is we are a culture that thrives on burnout. And as women, we seems to always be the last one of the list. — And I know I am not alone.
But I want to define what self care means to me:
Or maybe I’ll start with what it is NOT.
It’s not another way to numb and check out of a life that you hate.
If you are drinking a glass of wine, taking a bath or eating chocolate cake as a way to escape feeling miserable. That is not what I would call self care.

“The act of self-care has become yet another thing women are expected to be good at. Did you use the right filter for that ‘gram of your impeccably prepared acai bowl? Are the candles you just lit in your Snap story made from organic hand-poured soy or are they that mass-produced factory shit? And how can we stem the inevitable capitalist tide from turning something as simple as self-care into yet another thing to be bought and sold? These are all things I wrestle with as I order Dominos in sweatpants under the guise of ‘being good to myself.”
Self care isn’t about “treating yourself” It’s not just buying yourself new stuff, getting a pedicure, or binging on Netflix so that you feel like the rest of your life is tolerable.
It’s not a temporary fix to just get you through.
