“When you love something you wish it goodness; when you hate something, you wish to annihilate it. Change happens not by hatred but by love. Change happens when you understand what you want to change so deeply that there is no reason to do anything but act in your own best interest.”
When you’re looking in the mirror, what does your inner dialogue sound like? Are you hating every square inch of your body? You don’t get a body you love by hating it. So let’s talk about body hatred.
Oftentimes I see so many people accepting the victim mentality. You think that the power to feel or show up lies outside of yourself. That you have no choice over the matter. That you are a victim to whatever state your body is in. You are letting someone else’s definition of the perfect body control your life. We want something or someone to blame, so the easiest choice is our bodies.
Ways to Show Your Body Some Love and Respect
FIRST AND FOREMOST BE GENTLE WITH YOURSELF.
1. Self Forgiveness
2. Gratitude
3. Buying Pretty Undergarments/New Clothes
4. Stop Comparing
(Ask yourself “How does this make me feel to compare?)
5. Include more body diversity
(In your Instagram accounts or out on a walk–look around and notice real people)
6. End Body Bashing
(Public or private – if you wouldn’t say it to a dear friend or your child, don’t say it at all.)
7. Use affirmations
I respect my body, I feel good about my body, I feel that my body has some good qualities, I feel love for my body, I am attentive to my body’s needs. I am comfortable in my body.
