If you own this story you get to write the ending.
— Brene Brown

Most of us have been in cycles of self abuse towards our bodies.

I can remember when my coach told me to lay in bed everynight and touch my stomach with both hands and utter the words, “Please forgive me, and I love you.”

That was an incredibly challenging exercise for me.

In order to heal from the shame and abuse that we have given towards our bodies we have to admit the story that we have been living under.

If we keep striving towards perfection and this ideal body that doesn’t exist, we will always live in the trap of unworthinness and we will continue to abuse and hate our bodies.

Why do we need self forgiveness for our bodies?

1. It demonstrates radical self compassion

2. It breaks the cycle of judgement in our heads: snaps us out of the trance

3. Points out our belief patterns: It helps to point out limiting beliefs we’ve subconsciously been believing

4. It keeps us from the illusion of separation

“When we welcome what we most want to avoid, we evoke that in us that is not a story, not caught in the past, not some old image of ourselves. We evoke divinity itself. And in doing so, we can hold emptiness, old hurts, and fear in our cupped hands.” – Geneen Roth
