EP:21 UPDATE YOUR IDENTITY

(This video is recorded from a Facebook LIVE session)

The most powerful force in the human psyche is people’s need for their words and actions to stay consistent with their IDENTITY – how we define ourselves.

-TONY ROBBINS

Understanding our identity, or HOW WE DEFINE OURSELVES is vital to living a life where you are fully alive.

Who we say we are. OR who we are afraid of being. OR who we are afraid to show other people ultimately dictates our behavior every day.

Who ever we think we are, is behind the drivers seat of all of our decisions.

How we define ourselves is the clearest indicator of where we will end up.

SO, ask yourself these 5 questions:

1. Is this REALLY who we are, or is it a learned or adopted version?

2. How OLD is that identity?

3. Why did we ADOPT that? (protection, belonging etc)

4. How does it FEEL?

5. Do I need to UPDATE this?

You have a choice to adopt or reject your identity and create your own identity– not dictated by anyone else.

CLARIFY YOUR IDENTITY- How to Identify the 3 Elements of Your Current Identity

1. Identify your primary roles

2. Identify your personality

3. Identify your habits or interests

So once you have gotten a clearer picture of your current identity it’s time to ask the big question…

Do you want to upgrade any of those?

Is that identity going to give you what you want?

Do you like how it feels to be in that identify?

Is there any of that, that you would change?

TRY THIS EXERCISE- TAKE OUT A PIECE OF PAPER

ON THE RIGHT LIST: 5 IDEAL IDENTITIES

IN THE MIDDLE LIST: 5 UNSHAKABLE IDENTITIES

ON THE LEFT LIST: 5 UNWANTED IDENTITIES

This is such a helpful exercise to help you begin to shape and intentionally define who you are. By your terms. So that your actions begin to become consistent with how you define yourself ON PURPOSE.
