When we are going through hard times we need our mothers. We need someone to hold us and take are of ourselves.
But as adults we have to learn how to give that to ourselves. However, many of us have skewed ideas of mothering.
It looks like neglect, naging, expectations, hidden family rules, codependency, abuse, toxicity, etc.
Have you ever heard of the term: Re-parenting yourself? Or mothering yourself?
This is where the healing can begin. To rewrite the stories for ourselves and offer ourselves the energy that maybe we never received or simply don’t have access to anymore. This is a deep way of loving ourselves, to be our own mama bear.
3 Main Ways to Give Ourselves Motherly Energy:
WAY ONE: UNCONDITIONAL LOVE
There is a kind of allowing and accepting from mother energy. Without perceiving things as good or bad. It just is. And there is space for that. There is space to be heard, seen and understood. Without expectation that you need to do more, perform more.
In time of distress, we can unconditionally love ourselves by giving ourselves space to process, to feel, to be human and to remove the shame and judgement over where we are right now. And to extend more loving to any situation. To be the Mother who welcomes us with open arms. And it truly is a beautiful thing when we can mother ourselves in that same way.
WAY TWO: TRUST YOUR INTUITION
his is where we slow down to ask ourselves what we know to be true? In the archype, the Mother is all knowing and wise. She has a high level of intuition. A deep knowing. And her instinct is always dead on. When we access this mother energy inside ourselves, we remember that we too have everything that we need to know inside of us. That our intuition is dead on. And we can trust that deeply. We know what we need already.
We just have to slow down to listen to it. To access that wisdom inside ourselves. It’s there. We know better than anyone else what is best for us. And what the next right decision is.
WAY THREE: MEET YOUR NEEDS
I like to think of this as sacred care taking. How can we take care of our own needs? Mothers are always concerned with what their child needs. They anticipate it. They feel it. And they never deny it. They prioritize the needs of their baby. And we have to mother ourselves in that same way.
When you’re in a stressful situations, the relief can come when you access that Mama Bear energy for yourself. Calling upon that wise nurturing mother energy.
I love asking these questions often:
How can I accept myself more in this moment? Where do I need to offer myself more tenderness? More patience?
How can I loving nurture myself today or in this moment?
What does my intuition know? What does my own wisdom say about this?
In short, how can you be a loving Mother to yourself? How can you care for yourself in a way that feels so taken are of, so held, so gentle, so protective?
My prayer for you is that you begin to re-parent yourself in a way that is restorative to your heart and your soul and redeems MOTHER energy in your life for yourself. It’s so beautiful when you can give that gift to yourself.
