This time of year can feel stressful from external or internal pressures to set resolutions and create something new. This New Year especially, many of us are still recovering from 2020. If we set goals from this place we are likely to burn out and create fatigue.
There is a deep need in all of us for purpose. When we know our purpose it becomes the filter for our lives. All of us have been placed here intentionally and our purpose has an impact on everything around us. This last year has caused many of us to pause and really ask “Why am I here?”.
The definition of Purpose: The reason for which something is done or created, or the reason for which something exists.
Our purpose is our life’s mission statement. If you started with the end in mind, if you thought about what you would hope was said about you at the end of your life, that can be a great starting point to begin to uncover your unique purpose. When we know our purpose it becomes the filter for our life. It helps us know what to say yes to. We no longer need to play the comparison game because we don’t need to compete with anyone. It is your purpose. Unique to you.
Searching for purpose can feel overwhelming as it isn’t always crystal clear. It can help with beginning with general themes. Often our wounds are a clue to what our purpose is. Our struggles aren’t for nothing. Our purpose can often be attached to what we have gone through. We also do not have to search for meaning on our own. We get to partner with a Higher Power. We get to go directly to the Source, the One who created us, and ask “Why did you create me?”. We came into this world with a purpose for our lives. We don’t need to go looking for it. We simply need to remember.
Signs you are living in your purpose
- Its going to feel natural
- Its going to light you up
- It feels meaningful
- You’re drawn to it
- It can feel like passion or desire
- You actually enjoy doing it
- You can lose yourself in it and lose track of time
Signs you are out of alignment with your purpose
- You have low energy
- You dread it
- You avoid it
- You are dealing with a lot of physical pain or sickness
Once we remember our true purpose we can create a road map for our lives to keep us in alignment with who we are meant to be. Then we can run our own race and live lives of freedom, dedicated to things that fill us with passion, meaning, and create an impact in the world around us.
